Sub: NSS –  Observance of Gandhi Jayanthi – Communal Harmony Day/
International Day of Non – violence –Reg.
As you aware that every year National Service Scheme is celebrating Gandhi
Jayanthi on 2nd October as communal Harmony Day. October 2nd
 is also being observed as International Day of Non – Violence. This Day is an occasion to  “disseminate the
message of non-violence through education and public awareness.
Principals /Programme Officers are directed to observe Gandhi Jayanthi on 2
nd
October 2012 as Communal Harmony Day/international day of Non-violence in a
befitting manner at unit level and to give wide publicity to organize suitable programme
and administering Communal Harmony Pledge.
The suggestive list of programme is shown below.
1. Seminar or Symposium on Gandhian thoughts and its relevance today
2. Administering Communal Harmony Pledge
3. Singing of National integration Songs
4. Organization of blood donation camps
5. Communal Harmony Rally in the adopted area or in and around the school.
6. Cleaning Programme in the school Premises/Public places.
7. ‘Sramadhan’ with Gandhian concept.
COMMUNAL HARMONY PLEDGE
“I take this solemn pledge that being a NSS Volunteer I will work for the
emotional oneness and harmony of all the people of India regardless of Caste,
region, religion or language. I further pledge that I shall resolve all difference
among us through dialogue and constitutional means without resorting to violence”.
