A BRIEF REPORT OF SPECIAL CAMP 2011;GHSS KAMBALLUR,KASARAGOD;UNIT NO.363.
The annual special camp was conducted from 10 AM ; 25/12/2011 Sunday  to 4 PM ;31/12/2011 Saturday at SNDP AUP SCHOOL,KADUMENI  as per  the programme   chart submitted earlier. All the sessions went as per schedule except that of blood donation and integrated farming. The  failure in arranging the  blood bank facility from the part of the NSS CELL accounts for the cancellation of the blood donation camp. The moderator for the discussion session on integrated farming was not available for unexpected personal reasons. However a session of blood donation campaign and an extended session of biofarming  made up for the cancelled programmes.
50 first year volunteers participated in the camp without any interruption or absence. No untoward incidents were reported and the monitoring team visited the camp on 31/12/2011 and spent a few hours with the volunteers in the camp.
The theme was HEALTH ,SANITATION AND PERSONAL HYGIENE and the highlighted project was  a survey on life style diseases in the adopted area. The survey was done smoothly, the data was analysed and a report is prepared by the volunteers . The reprt  was briefly  discussed in the evaluation session on the final day which can  soon  be published subject  to scrutiny and verification.
The complementary projects like vegetable gardens in the camp neighbourhood ; digging up waste pits, cleaning the camp area as well as the adjacent town ;soap making  training for volunteers and kudumbasree workers ; palliative care orientation using BMI training,BP measurement training,Glucometer training and a visit to the near by old age home were completed ensuring maximum possible community participation.
5 camp papers and a camp magazine were  prepared during the camp days. A media meeting  was arranged and the need for honest reporting was discussed but the media participation was minimal, the local festivals and a flower show stealing the limelight. Still the local news network and the local pages of the print media have made note of the camp.

A programme committee with the East Eleri panchayath president Mr.JAMES PANDAMMACKAL as the chief patron and the ward member Mrs.Marikkutty James as the chairperson ,a student wing with five sub committees supported the camp. The whole-hearted support provided by the management and the staff of SNDP AUP school and the local community is highly appreciated.

Volunteers were given maximum possible exposition  as day’s officers,Project officers and Coordinators of each day.

We thank all whose support made this camp a success.

-Programme officer,GHSS KAMBALLUR.
